Have you ever heard the ancient parable of the frog in the well? The story goes that a frog lives at the bottom of a well, content with the small patch of sky above and the limited world around it. It believes this is all there is to life—until one day, it climbs out and discovers an entire world it never knew existed.
Too many Americans, in my opinion, live just like that frog. They are comfortable in their daily routines—work, a few close friends, reliable groceries, maybe Sunday football or church. While there’s nothing wrong with a simple life, many fail to look beyond their immediate surroundings and experience the richness of the world beyond their comfort zones.
As Membership Chairperson for the Trenton Rotary, I want to offer you an opportunity to climb out of the well. Rotary, an international service organization, has introduced me to parts of our community and the world I would have otherwise been ignorant of. It’s a network of men and women with a shared mission: to make our community—and the world—a better place.
If you’re ready to broaden your perspective, I invite you to join us. We meet every Thursday at 12:15 PM at the Trenton Country Club, and lunch is on me. You can reach me at 609-883-7528 or stonekingpt@aol.com. Take the first step out of the well—you might be surprised at what you find.
